They lied in a way that turned their supporters into attack dogs. They only started to tell the truth when John Edwards was caught at the Beverly Hills Hilton and even now both John and Elizabeth Edward are calling the people who caught him the liars. 1:39 PM:   John Edwards Admits Extramarital Affair. Former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards has admitted to having an extramarital affair, but has denied fathering a child by the woman. The affair has been reported in recent weeks in the tabloid press. NPR.  
1:36 PM:   Edwards Admits An Affair. John Edwards repeatedly lied during his Presidential campaign about an extra-marital affair with a novice film-maker, the former Senator admitted to ABC News today. In an interview for broadcast tonight on Nightline, Edwards told ABC News correspondent Bob Woodruff he did have an affair with 42-year old Rielle Hunter, but said that he did not love her. Edwards also denied he was the father of Hunter's baby girl, Frances Quinn. Atlantic.

10:21 AM:   Gallup Daily: Obama Still Up 46% to 43% With Obama leading McCain by a slim margin for the fifth straight day (now 46% to 43%), it appears he has recaptured a slight lead in the presidential contest after essentially falling into a tie with McCain last week. Gallup.

5:16 AM:   White Supremacists See Hope In Obama Win. They're not exactly rooting for Barack Obama, but prominent white supremacists anticipate a boost to their cause if he becomes the first black president. His election, they say, would trigger a backlash - whites rising up, a revolution of sorts - that they think is long overdue. CBS.
