With the convention less than three weeks away, Sen. Hillary Clinton is making it clear that she wants the voices of her supporters heard, as well. CNN.
5:23 PM:   Leaked McCain Memo: Paint Obama As A 'Job-Killing Machine' The strategy, which was authored by Taylor Griffin -- a veteran of the Bush White House and Treasury Department who serves McCain as a senior adviser -- seems built around traditional themes. The McCain campaign will paint Obama as being "aligned with trial lawyers" and "unions (card check, trade, education reform)," and push the frame that he "raises taxes" and "will kill jobs." HuffPost.
3:33 PM:   Man Held For Threatening Obama. A Florida man who says he has psychiatric problems allegedly threatened to kill the Senator, and also harm President Bush. Officials say the 22-year-old had weapons in his hotel room and car. Mark Halperin.
2:54 PM:   The DNC Strikes Back. Responding to John McCain's ad here, the DNC has just put up its rebuttal: Of course both ads exclude when these politicians said what they said about John McCain. Time.
2:14 PM:   McCain camp reviewing contributions. A spokesman for McCain said campaign officials are reviewing hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions following newspaper reports that a foreign national may have helped bring in some of that money. "We want to make sure that all the contributions to this campaign are appropriate," McCain spokesman Brian Rogers told NBC News. MSNBC.
2:13 PM:   Obama says reports of party friction are media creation. Barack Obama said Thursday that the controversy over how whether Hillary Clinton's delegates would be able to vote for her at the Democratic convention in Denver was a media creation and that he hopes his upcoming vacation helps cure any Obama fatigue among voters. CNN.
1:00 PM:   McCain: Obama's promises 'don't mean all that much' John McCain is stepping up his efforts to characterize his rival as a say-anything Washington politician out of touch with the American heartland, particularly on the issues of energy and taxes. CNN.

AP.
11:43 AM:   Obama rejects talk of trouble from Clinton backers. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on Thursday dismissed suggestions that the nominating convention could be marred by tensions between his supporters and the die-hard backers of Hillary Rodham Clinton. AP.
11:40 AM:   Dems call on Edwards to address affair rumors. Former Sen. John Edwards might have to move quickly to save his spot on the national stage. With two weeks before their national convention, several prominent Democrats are saying Edwards must publicly address anonymously sourced National Enquirer stories that claim he had an affair with a campaign worker and fathered her baby. News & Observer.
11:34 AM:   Gallup Daily: Preferences Stable, Obama by 3. Barack Obama has a three-point edge over John McCain in the latest Gallup Poll Daily tracking update, 46% to 43%, consistent with his advantage the past several days. Gallup.
11:33 AM:   Dems pounce on McCain Web video. John Kerry isn't the only Democrat who today has weighed in on McCain's new Web video, which contains clips of Democrats -- including Kerry, Joe Biden, Howard Dean, Obama and Hillary Clinton -- praising the Arizona senator. The clips all appear to be at least two years old, except for the clip of Clinton, which is from the Democratic primaries. MSNBC.
11:30 AM:   Obama on Clinton: No Catharsis Needed at Convention. "I spoke to President Clinton this week," Mr. Obama said. "He's been very supportive. I thought he showed extraordinary restraint in a fairly provocative interview," Mr. Obama continued. "I couldn't ask for him to be any more gracious or supportive since the campaign ended." NYT.
6:04 AM:   What McCain Should Do Next. McCain is the most private person to run for president since Calvin Coolidge in the 1920s. He needs to share (or allow others to share) more about him, especially his faith. The McCain and Obama campaigns are mirror opposites. Mr. McCain offers little biography, while Mr. Obama is nothing but. Karl Rove.
5:30 AM:   Political Perceptions: Suffering From Obama Fatigue? Ever heard of Obama fatigue? Well, new research from the Pew Research Center "discovered that 48 percent of all voters and, tellingly, 51 percent of independents feel they have been hearing too much about Barack Obama. In contrast, only 10 percent of voters say they have been hearing too littleabout the de facto Democratic nominee." WSJ.

Craig Crawford.
